The Walled Garden

Scampston, North Yorkshire

Siting of three elements in the walled garden, designed / remodeled by Piet Oudolf.

Oak Gate ‘Yat’. The design of the gate uses the letterforms Y A T , northern dialect word for gate. The entrance to the kitchen garden, the gateway marks the departure from the esoteric to the fundamental.

‘Corridor’. Cast Iron column 200mm diam x 2900 mm high. Sited at the end of a blind corridor of beech hedging. Pattern derived from bicycle tyre tread.

‘Tell Tale’. Sandstone grenade form on cast iron pedestal. Armament as ornament.
